WTN: Briccotondo Barbera 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:30 am

Fontanafredda
DOC Piedmont

Dark red in the glass.

Tomato and cherry on the nose.

Tangy, high acidity, spicy, medium bodied, tomato, cherry, earthy, peppery, full in the mouth, tarry, blood pudding, mouthwatering, with a mild bitter bite.

With time, the wine became even tangier, showing an acidic edge.

Tangy amd mouthwatering finish.

An enjoyable wine, but much, much better with food, due to the high acidity. This is the first wine I have had where I tasted tomato!!

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian).

Not a producer one expects much from, good to hear it at least delivered what it was genetically engineered to do - withstand (in this case, embody) tomato sauce!
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.
