I have never bought this wine for myself, though I did once buy one blind from a colleague at work. Almost a year later, in what might seem like some weird karmic twist, I received a bottle of the same wine from a friend.
At $8.95 at the LCBO, this is a seriously good bargain red. 13.5% alc./vol.; closed with a synthetic cork. Lovely dark ruby-garnet colour. Wonderful spicy red-fruit/raspberry nose with lots of herb action going on. Well balanced on the entry with moderate acidity, firm tannins and a lithe, appetizing, well-apportioned texture. Very food-friendly. Spicy/warm on the mid-palate with great balance and a nice touch of oak on the finish.
A great bargain for under nine bucks, and it went superbly with the grilled lamb chops I made for supper.
