Pichon-longueville Baron 1990

by ChefJCarey » Sun May 31, 2009 9:56 pm

Just came across three bottles I had buried in the back of the cooler.

Anybody had this lately?

Lucky you! I tend to find forgotten bottles of 1992 Meyney.

'89 and '90 Pichon Baron are both really solid wines, serious structure but with a touch of Mouton-esque flamboyance. I haven't had the 90 in a couple years, but certainly drinking well, no hurry.

Personally, if I had three, would open one soon, with someone who loves wine. Enjoy.

Yes, it's awful. Mail them to me and I'll pour them on the rhodies for fertilizer.

Yes, I had the Baron a few months ago. For me it was a disappointment. Not nearly as good as ten years ago... nevertheless an excellent wine, of course. I think it’s time to drink it up...

Not knowing vintage history very well, does this mean drink the 2000s soon?

Lord no! It would be almost criminal to touch these within the next 7-10 years. If well cellared these last 50 years. Of course if you have a case or two there is nothing wrong with having a peek but....
