WTN: Goats do Roam 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sun May 24, 2009 10:00 am

Fairview Trust
WO Coastal Region.

A blend of Shiraz, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Pinotage.

Dark red in the glass.

Smoky, charred, band aid nose.

Antispectic-band aid notes (which I don't mind), medium weight, black cherry, full in the mouth, smoky, spicy, quite tangy with high acidity, peppery, charred.

A smoky and tangy finish.

The charred notes and high acidity became a bit annoying with time.

I have enjoyed this wine over several vintages and I find it is always quite different: not necessarily better or worse, just different. This was the first vintage in my experience to feature so much of the brett-band aid-antiseptic notes.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

Thanks for the warning. Much as I like SA wines, I detest the charred bandaid thing that seems to happen there (for I don't know what reason). You should post this in Wine Focus too, if you haven't already.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

P.S. Agreed with your assessment - always a pleasant wine but enormously different in body and tannin level as well as in flavor and aroma profile from year to year.
