I had the 2002 Dom. Denis & Daniel Alary Cairanne Cotes du Rhone Villages and, for the vintage, was quite remarkable with lots of roses, violets and sour cherries in a medium bodied frame. I love CdR as a go-to wine for an every day red and have loved Alary for a few years now as my favorite CdR. They also offer several levels/vineyards of diversity. I'd like to know what others think of as their favorite CdR? Coudelet doesn't count as it is pretty much a CndP wannabe and more expensive too.

Mine, Jim, is a Delubac CdR Cairanne, 1998, of which I have only three or four left and no way to get more. Modest body, but a very serious wine. I wish subsequent vintages had warranted a double case purchase like this one did. For the last year I've been trying older 01s and now some 04s, and am having difficulty finding a go-to in the currently available bunch. [/b]

Gotta love those CdR from the north that are 100% syrah, Clape, Jamet. But that's just me.

I'm sure you make sure only to drink the 95 pointers from the Spek and RP.

Give me a good CdR any day for the price they beat Cal. syrahs and Aussie shiraz by a mile or two!

For me, Jim, it has to be Alain Jaume's <b>Domaine Grand Veneur</b>. Excellent producer, excellent property, literally just across the fence from Chateauneuf-du-Pape and with similar soil right down to the <i>pierres roulez</i>. It comes about as close to a "Baby Chateauneuf" as a CdR can, in my opinion, and around here at least, the price is still in the mid-teens, a far cry from Coudoulet.
