WTN: 2004 Crozes Hermitage

by Brian K Miller » Fri May 22, 2009 1:54 pm

Domaine Belle "Les Piereilles" Crozes Hermitage.

Quite rich and earthy with a lot of "oomph." Not over-ripe or extracted in any way (12.5% abv nominal), but definitely not thin. Red plum, white pepper, cranberry, earth, and a kick of meaty savoriness right on the finish. Fine wine! 87 points.

Les Pierrelles, I believe, Brian. I also quite like Belle's Crozes, if not quite with the passion that I love Graillot's (then again, they don't cost as much either). Over the years, I've generally preferred the "Cuvée Louis Belle" to the Pierrelles by a nose, but they're both good, honest Syrah.

Correct, of course. :)

I will look for the Louis Belle.

I've been lucky with Syrah lately-even the California Syrah from Laird was excellent (in a much hotter way)
