Whoa, a whole new world of buying/selling wine

by Dale Williams » Thu May 21, 2009 9:28 am

When I heard the vinfolio idea, I thought "too bad CT isn't part of this." A day later, whoa. This might sound like it's not that different from winebid/commune ideas, but the fact one can just put a price on a wine that one is wlling to sell without actively seeking to sell makes a huge difference. And on buying end, should greatly increase ease of finding particular bottles of older less traded stuff.

Isn't it great? Genius idea, really.

Perhaps a naive question on my part but just who is there to check the provenance and storage facilities of these zillions of bottles of wine that are to be sold?

Vinfolio will do inspection of each bottle. It's basically the same as Winebid does now. I tend to bid a little less than I would at b&m houses, but I've had very few ill-treated bottles at WB. Frankly, most of the wines I buy are the things that only real drinkers (not investors) would buy, they tend to store. Remember, this is only a "someone can offer a bid out of millions of bottles" so not a very efficient way to dump heat damaged bottles as opposed to Wine Commune, eBay, or an unscrupulous retailer.
