WTN: Shottesbrooke Shiraz 1999

McLaren Vale

This was a "lost" bottle in my wine cellar (purchased in December 2001) that probably should have been consumed three or four years ago. However, I kind of liked what a bit of age did to it.

Medium dark red, browning at the edges.

Earthy, pencil shavings, smokey, forest floor, shoe polish on the nose.

Medium weight, stewed cherry and raspberry, apple, plums, very smoky, earthy, forest floor in the fall, mushrooms, charred, floral, leather, quite deep and rich, with a slightly bitter acidic edge.

Earthy, mushrooms on the very long finish.

My wife didn't care for this wine, although I liked it for the extreme flavour profile.

Purchased at $17.80 (Canadian).
