My brother said he wanted a big, strong red with grilled steaks on Sunday.
So when I took Mom over there, I brought along a bottle of Foppiano Reserve Petite Sirah, 2001.
Drinking beautifully. Strong tannins and deep dark fruit in great balance. Just getting into the depth of age. At least 5 or 10 years ahead of it.
(Russian River Valley, Estate, 14.5% alcohol, $48 at the winery in September '06) I was so impressed I didn't inquire the price at the time. I was a bit shocked when I got home and looked at the receipt, but this is a very worthwhile wine. I picked up 4 more last month for $27, which I think will be an excellent value.
A simple supper of garlic sausage and coleslaw tonight.
Bargetto Viento Vineyard Gewürztraminer 2006. Could be called Forgetto. More lemon than spice, no particular flavor or nuance or anything memorable. I guess it tastes like wine, but just barely.
(Monterey County, 13.5% alcohol , $11.99 at BevMo last December)
