WTN: Red Bicyclette 2005 French Rose VdP d'Oc

I've started doing a weekly wine tasting at the small italian restaurant I work at and before the summer ends I want to do a rose tasting. The wine rep brought in samples of the only 2 rose wines they have that aren't considered blush. I've never felt compelled to buy this in the grocery store, but I'm glad I tried it:

Red Bicyclette 2005 French Rose VdP D’oc Rose (Syrah) 13 %

This wine has a transparent red color. The nose is filled with fruity, flowery spice. On the palate the wine is tart, acidic and medium bodied, the tastes following the nose. The fruit is a rather full and the wine is somewhat sweet, but the body carries this rather well. The finish lingers and isn’t unpleasant. This is a little bit larger than I like rose to be, but is certainly not a bad wine.

Tyler:
Thanks for the fine note on this budget rose.

Tyler,
What does the rep mean blush vs rose? Thought all were wines from red grapes with minimal skin contact.

"Blush" is the industry euphemism for "sweet as hell electric pink wine," whereas rose' is basically a dry table wine with limited or no residual sugar. Still, I'm impressed that Gallo would come up with a good-tasting, only slightly spoofulated rose', especially since I've seen the Bicyclette wines for as little as six bucks around here. Thanks, Tyler.
