WTN: Beau's Blues Monday

2007 Perpetuum Torontes. This bottle was rather tight and discombulated on Sunday. Monday night, after a bit of tartness at first, it blossomed with air, showing silky (but still great acidity) and lovely peach and citrus notes. A fine summer quaffer, even when it is not acting like California summer yet (drizzle! in May!) 85 points. Will buy again.

2003 Phillipe Melka "CJ" Napa Valley Cabernet. His entry level wine, named after his children Chloe and Jeremy. No info on vineyards. This wine started out tart, green, and oaky. For the first hour I was thinking "Another mediocre 2003 Cabernet.) Somehow, after about the hour point, it completely blossomed, showing rich berry fruit, black cassis, and earth. The tannins also appeared, with some austere drying notes. Still, lovely fruit. Definitely give M. Melka's wine some air. 87 points.

2005 Arnoux Chorey-les-Beaunes. Very minerally, austere, funky Red Burgundy. Tastes of the soil, but there is still good fruit here with plenty of "Pinosity." 87 points.
