Notes from the first night of the latest round of Repertoire dinners at Cafe Ysabel.

Ventisquero Queuelat Pinot Noir Gran Reserva 2006 - Very dark. Juicy raspberry. Light smoke and bacon. Dry and a little bitter in the finish. Solid wine, if not exactly exciting.

Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 - Young, rich, tannic. Bittter chocolate. Oddly metallic. Long but closed. Needs time to show off.

Tignanello 2003 - Very dark. Sweet and slightly decayed. A whiff of barnyard gives this wine some excitement and complexity. Rich, espresso, dry. Preserved Chinese plums. Complex. A very good drink now but has room to grow.

Dutschke Tokay NV - Caramel and toffee. Raisins, milk chocolate. Lovely balance. Very good and easy to drink.

We finished with a rather bland Blanton's Barrel No. 63 Bourbon.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
