Old, refined and elegant

Charles Aznavour came to NYC and gave a few concerts, we went to the one Sunday afternoon and had a great time; the man has an incredible voice and, for an 85 year old, moves with amazing grace on the stage.

After that, we needed something just as elegant and warm, so we opened a 1978 Prieure Lichine; a wine that should be well over hill according to common wisdom. Well, it was just like the afternoon performer; very refined and warm and performing incredibly well. The wine had a wonderful Margaux nose, a bright shiny color, the texture was a little fragile, but the taste is all elegant fruits, with a wonderful finish. Feels like a wine half its age. Bravo! Encore!

I really liked the way you tied the two "performances" together Jacques.

Bordeaux never ceases to amaze...

All the best,

Sounds lovely! To modify the old saying, "si jeunesse pouvait comme vieillesse savait," we'd all be so much better off.

Thanks Alex, they were tied together. I was not going to open anything except old French wine after the first performance.

Wow! I'm astounded, and so glad, to know that Aznavour is still with us, and still singing. Hurray!
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

I too am surprised that Aznavour is still performing.
Good show on the '78 Margaux! Got any more? We could compare with '81 Malescot or '83 Giscours in a "they should be past it" dinner. :)

I'm pretty sure I still have at least one, maybe two, bottles. Would love a "they should be past it" dinner.

I love Charles Aznavour's voice but I too didn't realize he was still around and could still give concerts.

Jacques, I too had and enjoyed the '78 PL recently. Well, four-five years ago, but that's close enough, isn't it? :)
