This is sad news. I had the occasion to meet this young man on a visit to Gravner in 2002 - actually, he translated for his father, in perfect English. An impressive, intelligent young gentleman who was clearly in synch with Josko's unique wine-making philosophy and would have carried on the family tradition.

Miha Gravner, 27, son and heir apparent to leading Friulian winemaker Josko Gravner, died Saturday evening after losing control of his motorcycle on the road between Zadar (Zara) and Karlobag in Croatia and suffering an injury to the head. The tragedy was reported today by the Sfuei dal Friûl Libar (Giornale del Friuli Libero or Free Friuli Journal, reposted here via Pane al Pane; photo by Alfonso Cevola).
Josko Gravner is widely considered a leader among natural and radical winemakers in Italy and the transnational Collio appellation.
