2007 MacMurray Ranch Pinot Noir - Sonoma Coast - 13.5% ABV - $24 in an inexpensive restaurant.

I persuaded myself that this could have been mid-level Bourgogne. Not over-ripe, not sweet, not syrupy, not Pinot Syrah, not too much alcohol. Tannins perhaps a little too obvious because of its youth, not over-oaked.

Sorry for all the "nots," but my palate is not particularly discriminating and is immune to nuance much of the time, but I really like this, especially when it should at retail at $12 or so. If I can find it at that price I'll buy a case.

I wonder what company uses that brand name. I don't remember seeing it - but labels come and go even faster than wineries!

Pretty sure MacMurray is Gallo. But not just a label, I think it's a real vineyard (or was)-Fred MacMurray (My 3 Sons). I've had 2-3 vintages, always a solid lighter styled PN.

I've seen MacMurray Ranch in local stores, but have never tried one. Might have to wait a while, as I'm accumulating faster than drinking, and we're hoping to move this summer.

Correct on all counts, Dale.

Yes, Dale is correct, but 'Double Indemnity' is much better to remember Fred by than was 'My 3 Sons.' ;)

"Double Indemnity" is a GREAT movie. The screenplay by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler is brilliant. Directed by Billy Wilder, it also stars Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. If you like film noir, rent this movie.

Poor Alan. He posts a reasonable note about a reasonable wine, and we veer off into cinema/television. I agree MacMurray is best playing against type like Walter Neff.

Dale, you're right. [Hanging head, shuffling feet in embarrasssment.]

Alan, your 07 sounds very similar to the 05 I purchased a six pack of about two years ago for the same reasons. Reports from others in between yours and mine indicate some disagreement though--others seem to have had lighter, less interesting versions.
