by Bruce Hayes » Sun Apr 26, 2009 5:21 pm

Dao, Portugal
Sogrape

A blennd of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro.

Very dark purple, almost black, in the glass.

A lovely nose, floral, spicy and black cherry.

Vanilla, spicy, juicy black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, red currants, medium weight, cedar, sandalwood, smoky, floral, drying toward the end.

Drying and light tannins on the finish.

A delicious,rich and classy wine.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

I see this around the Portuguese shops in Newark and may need to give it a try based on your note. Sogrape also makes a Dao bottling labled Callabriga that is a bit more pricy (maybe $15 here) that always gets good ratings. These are the guys that make Mateus Rose, so I find it hard to get past that memory when picking wines....
