WTN: Hart Wine Cellars 2006 Vignoles

by Mike Filigenzi » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:43 am

From the Lake Erie region, made by our own Howie. This is a clear, pale golden wine. The nose is apricot with some floral character and a touch of a musky quality that I like. In the mouth, it's initially smooth and full-bodied with plenty of peach-apricot fruit. There's 1.5% RS to round it but there's also a hefty dose of acidity to keep it clean and refreshing. Finishes crisp, clean, and a bit stony.

This is good stuff. The RS matches the acidity of this wine, and I think it shows that Howie knows what he's doing. It went very nicely with a dish of spaghetti with green garlic, pea shoots, and cheese.

I forgot about this. I've been all out of it for quite a while. Vignoles is my favorite white hybrid and I have about 20 vines growing in my yard now. I hope I can get some grapes from them this year. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It is indeed a very nice wine. Good luck in getting more of those grapes, Howie!

Sounds GREAT Howie! BTW how’s the Franc (or was it a Gamay) evolving, still “shut down”?

Salute

Gamay. Not sure - I haven't opened one in a few months. I may try one this weekend.

Where did you get the gamay juice from? Interesting. I like Gamay grapes a lot.

Ahhh - they do not ship to me I am afraid. I asked.

Too bad.

had a nouveau this afternoon with my dog. decent weather today. Not too hot! Got a lot done outside.

Now a sip of Chardonnay/semillon with some cheese and crackers and apples. no time to clean strawberries.

Almost opened the dry riesling of yours - but saving that one for a better special time.
