I just built

storage for about 500 bottles of wine in a reasonably organized fashion.

The wall illustrated is 67" wide and 84" tall, cost of lumber at retail was about US$80.

I am really pleased with how this turned out!

Sorry about the cramped view, this is a tiny storage room in our basement, first 'overall' and then a detail of the 6th level up, with some bottles:

I don't like how empty it looks.

LOL, neither do I, of course. However I am in luck, I have about 200 bottles at my office which will now have a home.

You're gonna love it when it's full! Do the shelves tilt back as they appear to in the photo?

Is this in a basement? What's the temperature variation like?

Thanks, Jenise! -- Each shelf tilts backwards, but the 7 shelves as a whole are straight up and down.

Hi, Matilda L -- this is a small closet in our basement with poured walls. The top foot or so is above grade, but the seasonal variation is pretty small and very gradual. Overall the temperature varies probably 4-5 degrees top/bottom as well as winter/summer, centering around the low 60s F.

Steve - it balance a concern? I note that the ends of the long boards don't have any support - something the worry about?

I think it would have been best to make a free standing “bookshelf” with sides and a back and with several “wedges” underneath to obtain the desired angle and anchoring it at the top to the wall or ceiling.

Looks good. You may want to consider adding some structural support along the side walls.
