Well this Malbec Hound strikes out!!

WTN:`07 Alta Vista Premium Malbec, La Casa del Rey Argentina.

375 ml, $11.00 Cdn, 14.5% alc. Decanted one hour, synthetic black cork.
French-run operation, suspect more international in style after reading recent reports?

Color. Deep red-ruby,looks right to me. Nice depth of color here.

Nose. Needs a fair amount of swirling to show some spice and plum. Black fruits wandering around here, but not that expressive yet. Needs time?

Palate. Initial entry thought was mocha straightaway. Black fruits, ripe, not that tannic. More forthcoming than the nose but way too "modern" for me. "Could use some acidity....too extracted" from across the table.
Very light oak here, long lasting viscousity noted. Fruit way too ripe for this hound. Oswaldo warned me about this one!!

Condolences!

Bob, do you take Decanter magazine? I was reading a recent issue last night in which Nicholas Catena is their Person of the Year, and his bio is quite interesting. I did not know who he was or what he'd done for the Argentine wine industry--his was just a name on a bottle. I'm now renewed in my quest to drink the top Argentine wines which have for the most part eluded me so far.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Well, things picked up this evening with a Malbec tasting downtown at my fave winestore. Will post asap so stay tuned. Well OK......>
Just a hint then, out of the 7 tasted, I enjoyed the Goulart, thought the Zolo was a bust, really admired the La Berangeraie Cahors. Me biased, no way!
