A wonderful tart, NZ-like SB. Grapefruit, whatever that “cat-pee” or “gooseberry” flavor might be. Super smooth, amazingly long for a SB.
Calif., Alexander Valley, Field Stone 2006
Bought at the winery, 1150 cases, 13.5% alcohol, $12.80
Maybe I should put this in the QPR thingy next door.
I took this over to the local pasta place and had it with capellini pomodoro, with scallops, and garlic bread. There wasn't anything left to bring home.
There's a story that you should drink things like SB almost before the cork hits the bottle. This feller has at least a couple of years ahead of it - I have to go up there and see if they have any more.

Today downtown, I heard great things about Kenwood and Sterling SB. Not to forget Hanna either!
Something going on down there?!

Hanna's Alexander Valley vineyards are about a mile from Field Stone. I don't know where Kenwood or Sterling source their SBs.
I think it's more a change in winemaking fads than anything territorial.

Kenwood's a serious favorite of ours in the California SB department. Ditto Geyser Peak. And though I typically don't like Sterling's wines, a bottle of Sterling's SB sometime in the last year, probably last summer, was an upside surprise.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
