So last night we had leftovers - lamb/bean stew, broccoli with cumin and sesame, and crab/avocado salad (this time with cabbage). I went light on the relish (more a cilantro gremolata) so the stew would pair with a Bordeaux, the 1998 Ch. La Tour Figeac (St Emilion GC). This showed quite nicely, nose of blackcurrants and coffee, broad/lushly textured on palate, resolved tannins. Low acid but not flabby, nice cassis fruit gets more outgoing with time. I think a lot of these lesser '98s are drinking well right now (more so than their big brothers). B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

This inspires me to open a 98 Barde Haut soon...
