Niagara Peninsula.
Fermented and aged in American Oak.
Fairly dark yellow/gold in the glass.
Smoky, caramel/vanilla on the nose.
Good acidity, medium weight, pear, spicy, toast, moderately viscous, quite sweet, notes of overripe fruit (which increased in intensity with time).
Caramel and toast on the finish.
A wine that is a few years past its prime, but still interesting. By the way, Daniel Lenko Estate Winery boasts of having the oldest Chardonnay and Merlot vines in Ontario. There is no information available on the Web site as to the exact age, but I recall meeting Daniel at a wine show a couple of years ago and I believe he told me that the Chardonnay vines date to 1967, which is old for Ontario.
