WTN: 2003 Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spatlese

Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany
A.P.# 2 576 801 03-04 8.5% alcohol
Long cork that nearly broke in the middle but came out clean with a nice pop.
The wine is somewhat a Champagne color. Floral and stone fruit nose. Nice ripeness/acidic balance but not as crisp and focused as some other vintages. Stone fruits and pear syrup on the palate. It went down so smoothly that the second evening I gulped about a 3-ounce pour without any thought at all. I then slowed down on the second pour to savor it a bit. It's in a good place now.
I had it with broccoli-stuffed chicken breast and potato pancakes. Thank you, Mike.

I've enjoyed the 2003 Vollenweider wines. I should pull one, as I have been having trouble with '03s, and it would be reassuring to drink a good one.

Pear syrup makes me think this won't last too much longer. But sounds like it drank well. I assume this was not a goldcap?

This wine has been pear syrup from the outset. That has nothing to do with aging.

The AP number does not correspond to the gold kap.

Wow.

Still, I have a bottle of the goldkap and am hoping for a little different experience than pear syrup.
