WTN: 2005 Parize Givry 1er "Clos Les Grandes Vignes"

by David Z » Sun Mar 22, 2009 6:15 pm

This was nice and good QPR a year ago, but it's not so nice now. The primary fruitiness has receded, and what was previously a background menthol note now dominates. Not really "light"- this is dark and almost opaque and extracted, but its thin in the middle and has sort of a heavy-yet-dilute, bottom slope Clos Vougeot "my roots were in too much water" feel to it.

One could call this "closed", but I think its never coming back.

In general, I've had more luck with red Mercurey than Givry. Is this the general rule?

In the past, I've liked the Domaine Jablot Givry, but I haven't had any of '05. Sorry to hear this one was a loser and thanks for the heads-up.

Do you have any more bottles to age to test this hypothesis?

I don't, but the local wine store does. However, I'm not sure if it's worth the $25 price of admission to see the show.

I don't know the producer but I would lean towards it being shut down. And $25 is pretty cheap. But then again it will probably need a few years. And I don't know the producer. So..
