WTN:2007 Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône

From M. Charpoutier. $12 from Whole Foods. This is French?? You'd never know it by tasting it. Sweet and jammy and distinctly new world, after a glass I figured this would be an interesting thing to compare with the "Menage a Trois" (which as you no doubt know is NOT French) that my wife was drinking. Pretty close, though this one has just a bit more tannic bite to it. More and more the search for inexpensive daily drinkers leads to this sort of thing - I'm sure it will work very nicely for a braise, but I don't feel much like finishing it. Perhaps Monsieur Charpoutier should be deported.

I stopped drinking Belleruche several vintages ago for exactly your description. Thanks for the warning.

My database indicates I purchased a couple of bottles 5-6 years ago, drank one and gave the other away. I haven't purchased any since then; was not terribly impressed with the wine. -- Clark

I haven't had the wine, but ya gotta love a wife who is into Menage a Trois. :D
