Quite pleasant Southern Rhone sipper. Ripe strawberry, earth, and a nice kick of pepper and herbs. About $15, and a very nice quaffer. Went perfectly well with the filet graciously fixed for me at WineStyles. 87 points. Would buy again if in the market for a good grenache blend.
Also: 2005 Saint Supery "Elu" Red Bordeaux-style blend. Bleh. They are charging $60/$70 for this? The oak swamps the nose and the palate. Overall flavor and mouthfeel to me is rather harsh. There is decent red fruit here and good acidity, but is there even the structure for aging? Everything good is swamped by the oak, which had a dill note that I would associate with a less expensive American oak aged wine. Avoid. This was a sample bottle dropped off by the distributor, and the consensus was "no." Given the price and the pretentiousness of the label and image, I would honestly give this one of my few sub-80 point scores. 79 points. The White Bordeaux-style blend is better, but still quite expensive for what you get. Saint Supery does not seem to be a winery I should patronize.
