WTN: Bodegas Muga Barrel-Fermented White 2006

Rioja

A blend of Viura (90 per cent) and Malvasia.

Light yellow in the glass.

Vanilla on the nose.

Rich pear, lemon and tangy green apple in the mouth, spicy, vanilla, toast, good acidity, quite full and viscous in the mouth.

With time, the wine lost some of its initial fatness, becoming leaner, showing more lemon rind, grapefruit, with lovely tingly acidity and quite minerally.

A mouthwatering, peppery finish.

Purchased at $15.85 (Canadian).
