Very dark garnet with a mulberry hue. Very appealing dusty-coal/leathery/old-style Pinotage nose; not particularly fruity, but lots of good old-style/classic elements on the nose (no "acetone" aromas however). Quite big and warm on the entry; good grip and oak spice right from the fore-palate and all across the tasting profile. Warm and expansive with firm acidity and a lovely streak of leathery bitterness across the entire palate (unlike the memorable Zonnebloem bottlings, which showed bitter astringency mainly on the aft-palate). Very surprising for its old-style character; I was not expecting this. Warm and ripe, but with a really nice, bitter/bretty side that keeps it on the good side of things.
