This Cru Bourgeois is a classic example of an excellent Haut-Médoc. Certainly a little bit more rustic than a few of the top wines from this Appellation like d´Agassac or Charmail, but nevertheless hugely satisfying...
An appealing classic bouquet of black and red fruits, damp earth, and leather is followed on the palate by cassis, cherry, and tobacco flavours. The mineral, fruity, dry, tannic finish is remarkably long. With time ripe sour cherry dominates on the palate, and, interestingly, even a hint of chocolate emerges. With its very good acidity and its lively tannins, this deeply coloured wine will develop nicely over the next years.
This is my first de Lamarque since twenty years or so. What a nice surprise.
