A spur of the moment dinner at Restaurant 101 with a few friends.
Champagne Duval Leroy Cuvee 2000 - a quick check of the the Duval Leroy website has this listed as the "Collection Paris" bottle with what appears to be gold-lined sketches on the bottle. Medium-gold with a very fine stream of bubbles. Rather mature looking. Butterscotch and caramel. Very complex. Only a little bready but with deep flavor. An excellent Champagne now but shouldn't have a problem aging.
Domaine Emilian Gillet Quinatine Macon Vire 2003 - Soft and very round. A little soapy. Citrus peel. Lacks a bit of firmness but still, a rather friendly wine.
Chateau Duluc 2000 - From St. Julien. Soft with good fruit. An easy wine for current drinking.
Peter Lehman 8 Songs Shiraz 1999 - Tobacco nose. Rich and oaky but thankfully, not all that sweet. Caramel and chocolate and already quite soft and silky. I don't see this improving anymore so best to drink up.
Warre Vintage Port 1975 - A bit spirity and quite pale. Some chocolate and a little grapey rather than the plummy/figgy character you expect from top-notch port. A bit of spice and medium-sweet. A good port that is probably at peak now.
