WTN: Nigl Gruner Veltliner Gartling 2007

Niederosterreich

Light yellow in the glass.

Spicy nose.

Crisp and clean, lemon and grapefruit rind, very peppery, tangy, light to medium weight, tingly on the tongue, good nervy acidity.

Grapefruit rind on the mouthwatering finish.

Quite refreshing and delicious: almost gulpable.

Purchased at $20.95 (Canadian).

Screwcap closure.

07 in Austria seems to be a fine vintage from what I've tasted. :D

I agree, Lou. After hearing all the hype about '06, I've found (so far) that '07s are more to my liking. I'm going long on '07 to the extent that exchange rates let me.

Agree Mark - I've found some of the 06s a bit too big and brutish for my liking whereas most of the 07s I've had were outstanding and much better balanced with a bit more acid and less alcohol.

Just a shame about the prices; I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for some close outs soon.

Isn't it always so: the super hot years producing flabby and unrefreshing wines are always the hyped ones. I say it's a conspiracy from the growers since they couldn't sell the wines otherwise to anyone who eats food. + more emoticons to taste.

FWIW, I have also very much enjoyed the few '07s that I have had, and found most '06s too heavy.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
