Not too surprised, Cynthia.
In 1985, Bruce Markham still owned the place, I think, and del Bondio was the winemaker. Bruce subsequently sold to a Japanese concern and the winery expanded tremendously. At that time, though, it was a small and very focused concern and it was making some good wine.
They had a Dry Chenin Blanc that I thought was the best being made in CA. Long gone now. And they had a Sauvignon Blanc that was killer too. But the best was the Cabernet. Not at all like the domiant style of Napa Cab today though; tight, finely structured and built for the long haul, with solid acids to hold the fruit as the tannins softened.
Glad the wine lived til now, and you got a chance to enjoy it.
