WTN: 2001 Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà

I confess I was a bit hesitant to publish my TN, as last week during The Symposium for Professional Wine Writers the New York Times chief wine critic Eric Asimov called for an end to tasting notes by his lecture "The Tyranny of the Tasting Note". Quite contemplating his approach, but I thought some Piedmont-aficionados are interested in my note.........

A masterpiece! Reveals a decadent&wasteful fruit in combination with a fantastic depth and complexity. Ripe, sweet dark fruits with spice and “sous-bois”. Surprisingly not chiseled or repellent, instead tremendously open and accessible. Also by no means the classic tannic&acidity monster from Piedmont (at this stage!), but present itself such hedonistic. Here we have a true magic potion.......
