2005 Bodega La Rural (Felipe Rutini) Cabernet Malbec Mendoza 13.5%
Very nice entry level effort from Felipe Rutini, available for $13 at the São Paulo airport duty free shop. Aromas of cassis with light menthol and restrained oak. Pleasant mouthfeel, good acid/sweet balance, agreeable tannins. Additional notes of cocoa and burnt sugar appear over time. Very smooth and a good cost/benefit (may not be imported into the US, but should be, as it would cost under $10 there).
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.
