WTN: 2005 Sipp Mack Sylvaner

Vieilles Vignes. Alsace
Sampled this yesterday and was blown away. Beautiful ripe grapefruit and white fruit flavors with hints of mineral and stone fruit. Slightly viscous but light and fresh in the mouth at the same time. Nice acidity but not tart or steely. Very long finish probably due to the 9.3 g/L residual sugar. Very nice wine that would be a nice apertif or served with Thai cuisine. 12.5% Alc/vol

Had the pleasure of visiting them in Alsace and tasting a number of thir wines here, and they really are a solid producer. Good wines and certainly good value.

Thanks for the note. I can't say I buy Alsatian sylvaner very often but getting blown away for $7.50 is certainly something to remember!

I'm not usually a white wine fan but the flavor, mouthfeel and very long finish surprised me for the $7.50 price tag. If only the wine had a nose...now we're talkin a QPR hurricane..........
