Couple of Southern Oregon wines...

by ChefJCarey » Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:58 pm

Usually I stick with what I know - the Willamette Valley.

I was pleasantly surprised by a few wines yesterday.

Two from Cliff Creek - a 2004 Claret was, well, like a claret! Cabernet Franc definitely present. I liked it.

The one I really liked was the 2004 Syrah from Sam's Valley Vineyard. Excellent.

Also had some Troon Zinfandel. They're in Applegate Valley - down by the Rogue Valley. Man, this was some potent stuff. A very good classic zinfandel. Big. Alcoholic as hell (16%) but not hot at the end. Unfortunately, the price tag is also big - $60.00.

Thanks for reporting on some of the (wine)roads less traveled.
