1999 David Bruce “Santa Cruz Mountains” Pinot Noir
Mostly Estate fruit but including the Split Rail, Branciforte Creek and R Bar R Ranch fruit as well.
This was rather closed in 2003 but the two bottles we opened last night had beautiful aromatics comprised of ripe red apples, raspberries, violets, black cherries, black tea, nutmeg and blackberries. On the palate it was much the same but with the little zip of pleasant acidity that offset the fattiness of our herb encrusted prime rib.
Great wine and despite what a board expert proclaims, there are indeed California Pinot’s that not only age, but age well .
