1999 J.M. Fourrier Gevrey Chambertin aux Echezeaux Vieilles Vignes 13.0%
My last of six (sniff). Quintessential light transluscent ruby. Elegant nose of sweet cherry and sousbois. Over time, the cherry transitions to sour and light spice notes emerge, along with some funk. Delicious mouth feel, excellent acidity, beautifully matched by fruit. Not complex or multilayered (this is, after all, a village wine, despite the high fallutin' name) but totally yummy and, at age 10, firing on whatever cylinders it's got. Unlike yesterday's Sella Lessona, nothing needs to be countered, so this can be enjoyed perfectly well without food.
