Available on the LCBO general list for $10.95.
12.5% alc./vol. Clear, medium garnet-ruby hue. The blend really shows through on the nose, with Gamay-inspired strawberry/cherry fruit atop Zweigelt's telltale meaty/white-pepper nose - a winning combination. Brisk acidity on the entry; very flavourful and spicy on the mid-palate, with crisp, balanced acidity and very nice grippy tannin. Appetizing; palate-cleansing texture. Dry and warm on the aft-palate with pleasant spicy replays. An excellent table wine.
I think that Pelee Island has a very reliable blend here. I tried the 2006 some time back and found it an astounding value and a truly well conceived blend. Zweigelt is a suitable vinifera for the Ontarian climate, and whether alone or in combination with the non-herbaceous Gamay, it works very well.
