So I joined in with all the Seghesio hoop-la!

Simply had to open the `04 Seghesio Sonoma Co. Zinfandel after all the recent `07 hoop-la.

Here is my brief note on the `07, tasted at the WS Top 100......>

`07 Seghesio Sonoma Co Zinfandel.

Right up there with the Condado but #10?? Different style from previous vintages. Light, soft, drink now style. Smiles from all at tasting, blueberry and brambleberry. Whats not to like from this Seghesio!

So onto the `04 I just opened last evening....>

`04 Seghesio Sonoma Co. Zinfandel.

Good natural cork, opened and decanted one hour. 15% alc, whoops.

Color. Dull red-ruby, soft centre w. very pale trace of light orange on rim.

Nose. Very aromatic, lots black berry fruits, spice, plum.

Palate. Initial thoughts are dryish, fine tannins, mocha on the finish. As it airs, very fine mid-palate leading to a lengthy finish. Brambleberry and blackberry, softens after a time in the glass. "Boysenberry...why didn`t we open this before......very lovely" from across the table.
Day 2 some sweeter tannins and pepper, this is great lip-smacking juice!

Bob,

Nice notes! I'm a big fan of Seghesio zins.

Bob,

Have you tried the Condado de Haza 2005? Some have been saying it is not as good as the Speculator claims. I have some in my cellar but have not tried it yet.

#34-Condado de Haza, R del Duera.

Very good flew off the shelf. Tempranillo, smokey nose, blackberry. Great mid-palate, good tannins, creamy at back end. Chalky, needs 2 yrs. $27 Cdn, fair price up here.

Especially for you Tom.

Thanks Bob,

I will try to keep my hands off it for a year or two. It was reasonably priced here in Ontario too - $28 Cdn.

That looks like the same price here Tom.
You been drinking any Garrafeira lately? Have a cracker here, the `00 Esporao which has cellared very well. Think Bruce said Esporao is on your Board list.

Hi Bob,

No, I don't drink many Portugese reds. Did have a nice 2000 red from there a few years ago, I think it was a Duoro reserve 2000. Nice wine but a bit tough to match with food. We did have the Esporao Reserve 2005 offered at the LCBO last year for $26 Cdn.
