Simply had to open the `04 Seghesio Sonoma Co. Zinfandel after all the recent `07 hoop-la.
Here is my brief note on the `07, tasted at the WS Top 100......>
`07 Seghesio Sonoma Co Zinfandel.
Right up there with the Condado but #10?? Different style from previous vintages. Light, soft, drink now style. Smiles from all at tasting, blueberry and brambleberry. Whats not to like from this Seghesio!
So onto the `04 I just opened last evening....>
`04 Seghesio Sonoma Co. Zinfandel.
Good natural cork, opened and decanted one hour. 15% alc, whoops.
Color. Dull red-ruby, soft centre w. very pale trace of light orange on rim.
Nose. Very aromatic, lots black berry fruits, spice, plum.
Palate. Initial thoughts are dryish, fine tannins, mocha on the finish. As it airs, very fine mid-palate leading to a lengthy finish. Brambleberry and blackberry, softens after a time in the glass. "Boysenberry...why didn`t we open this before......very lovely" from across the table.
Day 2 some sweeter tannins and pepper, this is great lip-smacking juice!
