WTN: Kate's Vineyard "Sedna" Cabernet

by Brian K Miller » Wed Jan 28, 2009 11:58 am

85% Cabernet 15% Syrah. 13.6% abv
Vineyard located north of Oak Knoll Road (on Big Ranch Road) just south of Yountville

While I prefer the richer and deeper 2004 vintage, this was still a very pleansant Napa Valley Cabernet, definitely on the lighter side with the Syrah adding in a background note of high toned red fruit. Solid B (85 points).

A question: Has anyone noticed a very distinct "leathery" quality to Atlas Peak bottlings?

I don't recall ever seeing a CS/syrah blend from Cali available locally. Am I just not paying attention or is that somewhat uncommon?

They are a very small producer-350 cases of this wine from their own vineyard. So...not sure it is widely distributed. It's available in the City of Napa at Back Room Wines (they ship...and have a website)

There are a few Syrah/Cab blends out there that I have run into over the years (others please contribute more!). Of course, Beaulieu makes "Dulcet" which is pretty pleasant from my limited experience. Not sure about how the wide the distribution is, though. Another one I remember is from the unfortunately named "Chateau Boswell" near Saint Helena (Cuvee Jaqueline).
