Donn Reisen, President of Ridge Vineyards (and a personal friend to many of us) was found dead in his automobile yesterday, apparent victim of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Allan, it is sad the news that you bring. I know he was a friend to many and I suspect especially to you. The world of wine is much worse off today. We don't see much (any?) of you here and then this. I hope you can visit more often.

Donn was, as far as i could tell, loved and revered by everyone who knew him. It would seem there are, in too many of us, places in the heart that can't be soothed. So painful, so terribly sad.

He was by all accounts a gentleman and worthy friend. There can hardly be anyone who has not enjoyed his wines at some time or other.

Just awful. One of my favorite places.

I looked back at a previous posting to see if I had ever met the gentleman but it was John Olney who was present at the Ridge wine tasting and dinner I attended in Raleigh.
I'm sorry for his pain and the pain that his death will cause to others.
