WTN: 2001 Edmunds St. John Syrah (California)

Just opened this to go with tonight's steak dinner.

Meaty, earthy, still plenty of dark fruit - this is lovely. The tannins have backed off & there's a good core of acidity that keeps everything focused. Long, meaty, fruity finish.

I suppose wine can be better than this, but I don't really know how.

Sounds great. I had a bottle of this a few years ago that seemed very evolved but it was obviously playing tricks on me!

Or more likely the storage had been playing tricks on the wine as it was still sitting on a store shelf in 2006 when I found it.

I bought this one on release, so it's had pretty good storage. Absolutely ready to go and peak drinking all through dinner (and after).
