2005 Edmunds St. John Rocks and Gravel - USA, California (1/24/2009)

Decanted this Rhone style blend for about an hour. The first whiff had some mustiness that had me thinking the TCA-devil had invaded. Thankfully, this blew-off in just a minute or so. Dark, but not impenetrable. The nose is reticent at first, but with time does open to reveal modest dark fruit, licorice, leather and just a bit of game/meat. Medium bodied. Tannins are edgy suggesting some time in the cellar will be of benefit. Paired with stew and homemade egg noodles. Nice wine, and just another reason I like ESJ.

Sorry, Bill....certain noted wine critics and Monkton attourneys have characterized this wine as a "low-brow Cotes du Rhone".
That's the kind of wine you like to drink??? :-)

The R&G have this tendancy to be rather underwhelming upon release. But then, a few yrs down the road, with a little age,
tend to rise up and bite you in the a$$ they're so good. Spect this will do the same.
