WTN: Zonte's Footstep Shiraz-Viognier 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:47 pm

Langhorne Creek
A 94-6 per cent blend.

Very dark red in the glass.

Dusty, peachy, cherry pie, cranberry and smoky on the nose.

Medium bodied, quite mouthfilling, peach, orange, raspberry, cherry pie, cranberry, and strawberry, tangy acidity, quite rich and juicy fruit.

Tangy, raspberry, with some bitterness on the long finish.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Bruce, this wine is served by the glass at the Grill. Over on a UK forum, not too many kind words but good for you trying it.
Watching the events to the south of you today? Quite impressive eh.

Bob I have to agree with you on this one. I have had the odd glass and find it an overbearingly sweet fruit bomb. The SV blend is raging like a bush fire through Australian wine making circles at present and some are doing it better than others. Probably the best Aus example of the SV blend at present is the Clonakilla. If you manage to find some, it needs a min 5-7 before opening but will reward patience.
Miss dhem Saints.

Yes, it was quite fruity, but it was also quite tangy which I found helped to level out the juicy fruit aspect.
