Thanks for posting that, Bob. I haven't purchased Australian wine in several years because of what I considered the Aussie style, but that article has me thinking I might try some again. Much appreciated.

Thats why I posted it, OW. There are some very nice Rieslings coming out of this area too, thought it was an informative piece.

Though being many leagues from being an Oz-head, I cannot see ow an Uber Geek could go several years without buying ANY Australian Wine. You can't go into any wine store in North America without tripping over cases of the stuff. Seriously, look for Leasingham, Magnus; it is a delightful quaff for ten bucks.

I know, I know. They say the difference between a rut and a grave is four feet. I must be two feet away. Of the 600 or so bottles in my modest cellar, 5 or 6 are Australian, the newest of which are 1999s, and most of these were gifts. Kind of a funny position for someone who got back into wine, after several years absence, because of Australian GSM. That was then.
Now, I just keep going back for different versions of things I like, or if I am in an experimenting mood, I tend to purchase wines from the same areas (France, Italy, Spain, Oregon) but from different wineries or made from different grapes. Or wines recommended by my merchant who knows my tastes well. I have avoided the Aussies, getting enough of those at various parties (you know, the cheap Shiraz) to conclude they haven't changed much.
But I made notes on some of the Margaret River stuff in the article. It may give me a chance to climb out of this rut.

I think we all have areas like this - basically we don't drink enough wine to even dent the surface of what's available, so we tend to have pockets of specialism and then play around with other stuff to ensure diversity.
