Some wines from the WS Top 100 tasting!

#77-NV Duval-Leroy Brut.

Clover honey note from BS is spot on. Fine mousse, apple pear on finish. Good length, nice yeasty dough. Airline wine!

#30-Bryon Chardonnay Calif.

Spice on nose, caramel finish. "Chewing on a board", needs food, good with capicoli. Not too well received however.

#51-Felsina Berardenga CC, Tuscany.

Dry, needs time. Oaky nose, spice, blackberry aroma. No big fruit on finish yet....too young. Might be fun down the road.

#34-Condado de Haza, R del Duera.

Very good flew off the shelf. Tempranillo, smokey nose, blackberry. Great mid-palate, good tannins, creamy at back end. Chalky, needs 2 yrs. $27 Cdn, fair price up here.

#8-Ch de Beaucastel .

Available in split, 750 or magnum on the evening. Sold out fast of course. Tar and hot stone comments spot on again. Long dense finish, what else can one say?!!

#10-Seghesio Sonoma Co Zinfandel.

Right up there with the Condado but #10?? Different style from previous vintages. Light, soft, drink now style. Smiles from all at tasting, blueberry and brambleberry. Whats not to like from this Seghesio!

#4-`05 Ch Guiraud, Sauternes.

Dumb nose but oh the palate!! Lemon, botrytis, baked apple..its all there folks. Very long finish, why keep drink up and buy more!!

If it's the exact vintages from the actual top 100 then the Seghesio is a 2007, the Beaucastel is a 2005, the Byron is another 2005, as is the Condado, while the Felsina is a 2006.

Thanks Bob. My wife bought the '05 Guiraud for me as a Christmas gift. I was thinking about letting it rest for a year, or two, but perhaps that is not needed. She was also able to get me a bottle of the '05 Clos Apalta. I'm itching to drink that one as well.
