2007 Dönnhoff Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken
I am tempted to write a one word tasting note: wow.

But of course I can't do that. I can say that I have rarely had a young, dry Riesling that displayed this level of fruit, minerality and seamless integration. I have no doubt that it can develop and improve for years to come, but I am certain that I won't have the patience for it. Balanced, expressive and emminently drinkable, this wine is delicious right now.

(Restraint... restraint... must not buy Donnhoff GGs...)

Sounds phenomenal. I wasn't a huge dry Riesling fan before I tasted Donnhoff's Grosses Gewachs from Hermannshohle - the 07 was one of those wines that can leave a person shaking their head in amazement and stumbling for a description.

After the Felsenberg I am almost afraid to open the Hermannshohle. Can a wine be too good?

Have you tasted the Dellchen GG yet? I'm pretty sure that wouldn't suck either (and I'm liking that vineyard more and more each time I drink a wine from it - looking forward to opening my one bottle of '02 Dellchen Kabinett some time this spring).

Nope, but I will soon. Maybe on the 18th or so.

Wait, these are early drinkers? I have some of the '06 HH GG and after a bit of research (but no drinking yet), I still don't have a handle on when to open these. And the range is from open now to hold for decades. I thought Germans wines were easy.

They are easy - open in the first year or two, or wait until age 8-10 or so.
