2007 Domaine du Vieux Chêne Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Cuvée de la Dame Vielle- France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Vin de Pays de Vaucluse (1/10/2009)

A 50/50 blend of Grenache and Syrah. Supposedly from 85+year old vines. Neocork closure. Organic.

Very sweet Grenache tuti fruiti predominates on the nose and palate. It's not unlike drinking cherry flavored grape juice. Totally lacking in structure. Surprisingly the finish is quite nice with spice and black pepper, but not enough to overcome the other shortcomings. I've liked many of the wines from this producer but this ain't one of them.

This hasn't been a wine week to remember fondly.
