WTN: 2006 Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve

2006 Le Clos du Caillou, Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve
A textbook Chateauneuf with great future! A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre und 10% Syrah. Despite the youth this wine reveals an incredible depth, power, structure and concentration. A basket of black fruits, black tea, spice-box and bitter-chocolate. Here we have the “black concentration” of Grenache. But despite the density, the wine is amazingly elegant and polished thanks to the massive silky tannins. Thankfully not port like and in addition a gorgeous endless finish.......a must-buy for every Chateauneuf-du-Pape aficionado. It was very helpful for the performance that the wine was opened 1 day ago (not decanted!).
95/100

Great note, Martin.

I have yet to try one of my 2004 Reserves. Any peak into how that might be drinking?

Diane,

I don´t know the 04 version, but I wouldn´t open a bottle.

In addition, a few days ago I had 2001 Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape, also quite firm structure right now and the next bottle in 3-5 years.

Cheers,
Martin
